The Department of Civil Engineering in Vidyavardhaka Polytechnic was started in the year 2009 and it has become a centre of excellence in the Civil Engineering field over the years. The course imparts knowledge in the areas of Building Technology, hydraulics, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Surveying, Transportation Engineering, and so forth.
The department will provide quality technical education in civil engineering to produce competent professionals to serve the society.

Class Rooms: Lecture halls equipped with multimedia Projector and CCTV.
Seminar Hall: Spacious seminar with multimedia projector and audio visual facility.
Library and Computer center: College library consists of more collection of technical books and journals. Computer center facility is provided to students in the college to facilitate information access from internet.
Laboratories: The Department is well equipped with equipments, instruments, computer lab and material samples. The students are given knowledge and hands on experience on various equipments necessary for conducting practical’s as per DTE syllabus.

The laboratory is equipped with a number of equipments and experimental setups to study the fundamental of hydraulics. The setups are used for calibration of flow measuring devices used in channels and pipes.The equipments are operated in a closed loop system which conserves water and averts the need for large quantities of water supply.
The CAD Laboratory has necessary infrastructure and software. There is a compulsory laboratory session in the curriculum.
Material Testing Laboratory
Material testing involves the measurement of the characteristics and their behaviour under various conditions. The data thus obtained can be used in specifying the suitability of materials for various applications like building materials and construction.
Surveying practice lab is also equipped with state of the art equipments such as Total Station, auto levels and in addition to The odolite, Dumpy level, Auto level, Chain, Prismatic Compass, Trough Compass, Ceylon Ghats tracer and Plane table with accessories, leveling staff, and Optical square.
